Tramlines Rugby Practice

For Frank Hadden, the Scotland coach, practising the basics is an important part of training.

Here's a game Frank Hadden uses to practice passing and catching skills, communication, as well as support play.

The idea of the drill is to make the players spread the ball across the pitch to create gaps in the midfield through which to make breaks and penetrate the defence.

Tramlines Rugby Practice

Set up a game of touch rugby, 15 v 15, on a full pitch. If a player in possession is touched between the two 15 metre lines, then the ball is turned over. If a player in possession is touched between the 15 metre line and touchline, they have three seconds to offload the ball, or go to ground to allow the ball to be recycled.
